The armed Houthi militia's announcement of a so-called constitutional declaration is a reckless and disrespectful act, disregarding the rich history, struggle, and aspirations of the Yemeni people. Rather than a legitimate constitutional declaration, it is a blatant attempt to seize control of the Yemeni state, posing a grave threat to the country's integrity and unity.
The Council denounces the Houthi declaration as an infringement upon the Yemenis' right to choose their leaders and a violation of their freedoms and future. The Yemeni people will reject this declaration, as their destiny cannot be dictated by a select few driven by ambitions of control and dominance.
The Council views the Houthi militia, following their coup against the state, as regarding democracy, the republic, unity, and the February 11 revolution as enemies, necessitating a forceful response despite the potential unpredictable repercussions.
The Council further asserts that Sana'a has turned into an occupied capital, controlled by sectarian armed militias that have unlawfully seized power and undermined the Yemeni state. Consequently, the Council deems all the actions and measures taken by these militias as null, illegitimate, and non-binding for other governorates and regions outside the occupied capital.
The Council appeals to Yemenis from various backgrounds and perspectives to unite in opposition to the Houthi militia's aggressive actions and to defy its attempts to assert dominance. The militia's insistence on pursuing unilateral and arrogant plans, seeking to unilaterally alter the country's political identity, represents an unprecedented historical precedent that must be resisted by all.
