The council of the revolutionary youth welcomed the document for addressing the southern cause but criticised some of the document's texts saying they are discriminatory. It also criticised removing words and phrases indicating to the peaceful revolution in the report of the social justice group within the national dialog conference and approving 11th February as a national day.
"The document for resolving the southern cause included phrases and texts calling for discrimination and inequality in political and civil rights among citizens. Moreover, it talked a lot about regional identities that have suggested solutions to past conflicts in a way that will lead to conflicting identities instead of serving the national identity," it said in a statement during a press conference on Friday.
"The document legitimises giving public jobs on a regional basis not on the equal employment opportunity, competence and integrity," it said. The document gives priority to southerners to hold public jobs during the next electoral period stating that half of the members of the parliament shall be from the south though only 25% of Yemen's population live in the south.
The council, which is chaired by Nobel laureate Tawakkol Karma, called on members of the southern cause to amend the document so holding public jobs can be in accordance with the standards of integrity, equal employment opportunity and experience.
Moreover, it demanded that proportional representation in the parliament should be according to population and geographical areas, 50/50, stressing the importance that the document of the dialog conference should mention struggles and sacrifices of the youth of the peaceful revolution at all change and freedom squares.
On the other hand, the council renewed its calls for investigating killings, forced disappearances and arrests that occurred during 2011, compensating the victims and forming a national committee to take care of the families of the people who were wounded during the revolution and the southern strive.
