Youth Council Statement on the 63rd Anniversary of September 26

As we mark the 63rd anniversary of the September 26 Revolution, we honor the moment that shattered the long night of imamate rule and opened Yemen’s doors and windows to the dawn of freedom and republicanism.

The September Revolution was not merely a political event—it was Yemen’s gateway to the world and its people’s first true encounter with the principles of equal citizenship and the rule of law, following centuries of isolation, tyranny, oppression, and famine. It represented the rebirth of a nation determined to live in freedom and dignity, and to lay the foundations of a modern state upon the ruins of clerical rule, servitude, entrenched racism, and hollow religious claims of divine selection and a so-called sacred race.
Today, the Houthi movement stands as a usurper of September’s legacy and an enemy of its noble values. It seeks to erase the revolution’s meaning and extinguish its flame in the hearts of Yemenis. Yet its fear is evident—resorting to repression and arresting dozens simply for commemorating this national milestone. Its terror at the sight of the republican flag and the sound of patriotic anthems exposes its theocratic nature and confirms its deep anxiety in the face of a revolution that once toppled its ancestral project. The violations committed today—arbitrary arrests, suppression of freedoms, and crimes against civilians—are nothing short of war crimes, perpetrated openly before a world whose silence is both shameful and complicit.
As we commemorate this great anniversary—shadowed in recent days by the heinous crime that claimed the life of the martyr Iftihan Al-Mashhari—we mourn this immense national loss while commending the ongoing security efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice. We hold steadfast in our hopes for peace and stability in Taiz and across all of Yemen.
We call upon the liberated areas to serve as a true national model—anchored in effective public service, the protection of rights and freedoms, and the safeguarding of people’s lives and interests. This is the path that will ultimately lead to the restoration of our capital, Sana’a, and the liberation of all Yemeni lands from the grip of the imamate scourge that has stripped Yemenis of their hard-won achievements and driven the nation into darkness.
Mercy to the martyrs!
Healing to the wounded!
Glory to Greater Yemen!
