Today marks the anniversary of the tragedy that struck our nation on 7/7/94, the invasion of Southern Yemen by the forces of backwardness and darkness that ruled the North and extended their experience to the South under the guise of tribalism and underdevelopment.
They engaged in all forms of corruption and organized looting of public and private properties in a systematic destructive process that targeted the civil and humanitarian heritage of the free and united Southern people. All of this was replaced by a culture of backward chauvinism that our people have been rebelling against since the 1950s.
O free Yemeni people,
In light of these grave practices, it is essential for all parties involved in the 1994 war to publicly apologize to our brethren in the South, restore their dignity, and ensure the full reinstatement of their rights that were unjustly taken away and looted, while holding accountable those responsible for the widespread devastation, destruction of human bonds that once unified us prior to geography, and the treatment of the South as a mere spoils of war, resulting in the plundering of wealth, destruction of public and private properties, and the pillaging of lands, homes, and farms in an unparalleled act of looting in Yemeni history.
The Council also calls upon the collective consciousness of our nation to freeze the culture of division and the sources of hatred and regionalism left behind by Saleh as a dagger deeply embedded within the fabric of social cohesion.
O people of unified and revolutionary Yemen... O people of the southern cause... O people of the northern cause...
On this day, the anniversary of 7/7, we gather to remember a sorrowful chapter that has left lasting wounds and far-reaching consequences. It is an occasion to denounce the "fragmentation regime" and its affiliation with the legacy of the "Saleh" regime, which has subjected the lives of Yemenis to unending suffering through its enduring alliances.
Today, we hold onto this memory as a deep wound that continues to bleed from the core of the Yemeni dream, witnessed by the hopeful eyes of our children and the generations deprived of their rightful aspirations. They yearn for a future marked by sustainable and secure stability, where they can live normal lives free from the burdens of temporary solutions or the perpetual postponement of misfortunes. We acknowledge that the Yemeni people have transformed, no longer the same as we once believed them to be before the dawn of 2011.
The Saleh regime employed deceptive political rhetoric, falsely portraying a facade of unity while ultimately seeking to consolidate power for itself, its family cronies, and relatives. Eventually, the truth emerged, revealing its intention to exploit the blood of victims, divide the people, exploit resources, and monopolize wealth for the regime and its allied factions, all under the guise of various titles and designations.
Just as they habitually enticed their partners in looting, crises, and fabricated wars, like those seen in Saada and other conflicts, their approach centered around the mindset of exploitation, shamelessly seeking to acquire wealth and using divisive tactics as tools for sharing the spoils.
May the people be granted freedom and dignity!
May the martyrs be remembered for eternity!
May the wounded find healing!
