The Peaceful Revolution Youth Council regards the US decision to designate the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization as a pivotal measure in the pursuit of accountability for perpetrators of war crimes.
It is noteworthy that the Council had already classified the Houthi militia as a terrorist group in the aftermath of the fall of Amran province in July 2014. It is the Council's expectation that this position will lead to tangible aid for the Yemeni National Army in its efforts to reclaim the capital city of Sana'a and topple the coup and its aftermath.
The Council expresses its hope that this decision will compel the new US administration to reevaluate its Yemen policy and demonstrate a heightened level of interest in the Yemeni issue, which has been neglected in recent years. This neglect has rendered Yemen susceptible to the caprices of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, who have established armed groups outside the boundaries of legal frameworks that employ violence and contribute to the erosion of the state, civil harmony, and the preservation and unity of Yemeni territory.
The Council restates its stance advocating for the creation of a dedicated tribunal for trying war crimes committed in Yemen, targeting both domestic and foreign perpetrators, as an indispensable prerequisite for achieving a genuine peace that serves the interests of the Yemeni populace and the neighboring nations.
