When the February revolution erupted thirteen years ago, the prevailing aspiration among the masses was to reclaim the honor of the republic.
This sentiment arose in response to President Saleh's efforts to pass power to his son, which became the sole endeavor of a regime that ultimately failed to establish a state governed by institutional structures and legal frameworks.
Today, the ordinary people who endure the grip of militias and external interference continue to hold on to the same notion: reclaiming the honor of the republic. This objective can only be accomplished when the era of militias comes to an end and power is restored to the people. This was the essence of the February revolution, and it is precisely what Yemen needs in order to regain stability and prosperity.
As the Peaceful Revolution Youth Council commemorates this significant anniversary, it recognizes that the assault on the February Revolution lacks fairness and integrity. It serves as a defense of an era characterized by the disrespect of state institutions, the establishment of nepotism, the weakening of the military, crisis-driven governance, and the erosion of political participation. Ultimately, this assault culminated in undermining the imminent democratic transition that would have established an accountable authority answerable to the people.
The coup against the February Revolution and its civil implications have fueled the emergence of extremist agendas rooted in religious and regional rhetoric, challenging the longstanding principles of the Yemeni national movement and its struggles spanning the past century. Events have demonstrated that such non-national agendas wouldn't have gained traction without the backing and sponsorship of certain regional countries viewing the current climate as an opportunity to reshape Yemen's landscape in alignment with their interests rather than those of the Yemeni people.
In this context, the Council has repeatedly voiced concerns regarding the peace negotiations between Riyadh and the Houthis. These talks, it argues, risk compromising the sovereignty, unity, and political framework of the Yemeni state, which is founded on party pluralism and the populace's freedom to elect their representatives in both the executive and legislative branches.
Within this framework, the Council deems any political or religious entities or projects that do not uphold the ideals of a unified, democratic, and republican Yemen as illegitimate. It perceives such entities as being manipulated by external forces that pose a threat to the Yemeni state. The Council harbors no doubt that the Yemeni people will steadfastly resist these questionable endeavors until they are entirely eradicated.
As the Council celebrates the 13th anniversary of February, a symbol of freedom and dignity, it wholeheartedly commends the unwavering resilience of the Palestinian people in Gaza and all occupied Palestinian territories. The Council firmly denounces Israel's actions as a genocidal war, recognizing that despite enduring a barbaric and destructive conflict, Gaza has become a source of invaluable lessons in resistance and civilization. These lessons have significantly contributed to a positive shift in global public opinion towards the Palestinian cause. Moreover, Gaza has successfully halted the worrisome process of normalization with Israel, orchestrated by certain oppressive regimes in the region, at least for the time being.
The struggle and resilience of the Palestinian people against conspiracies for over seventy years is not only a testament to their commendable determination but also a proof that free peoples never perish. We have complete confidence that our great Yemeni people, who came out in February with all their diverse factions, orientations, and differences, will not relinquish their right to the state they desire.
Nor will they forget the sacrifices of the Yemeni National Movement and its accumulated history, beginning with the 'Mother Revolution' on September 26, followed by the October 14 Revolution, culminating in the reunification process on May 22 during the early 1990s.
This journey of sacrifice persists as they endeavor to reclaim the state usurped by sectarian Houthi militias in the north and regionalist Southern Transitional Council militias in the south. Additionally, our people will oppose all conspiracies and attempts aimed at fragmenting and dividing Yemen, striving to restore the dignity of Yemeni citizens in a fair federal democratic republic where everyone is equal under the law, with nothing above it.
